IT BUCK$ THE RECESSION

The question is not "Can you afford to get certified?" The question is "Can you afford not to?" Whether you are just starting a career in IT, ready to change your current employment situation, or looking to advance your current career - becoming certified today greatly increases your opportunity to get employed, stay employed, and be well compensated. Read on to see the latest industry data on certifications and job opportunities in IT.
The 2008 Redmond Salary Survey shows IT job and salary strength.
"A looming recession should affect salaries. So should reports of IT budgets being slashed for the rest of 2008. And so should global economies going crazy with every dollar fluctuation, mortgage crisis or the closing down of another subprime-laden bank or brokerage.
But get this: Those events haven't made any such visible impact on IT compensation -- at least, so far -- as this year's joint Redmond/MCPmag.com 2008 Salary Survey indicates. For a fourth year in a row salaries have risen, as have raises, bonuses and job stability, sidestepping any rising recessionary tide."[Read More...]

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, IT positions are expected to be among the fastest growing in the U.S. economy. IT jobseekers should continue to enjoy excellent job prospects over the next decade. This employment growth is driven by the ever-increasing reliance of businesses on IT, as well as the continuing importance of maintaining system and network security in the changing business landscape. Jobseekers can enhance their employment opportunities by earning certifications. Many employers regard certifications as the industry standard. Additionally IT positions often benefit from great upward mobility; advancement sometimes comes within months of becoming employed.Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics: Occupational Outlook Handbook 2008-2009 Edition
Employment in professional, scientific, and technical services will grow by 28.8 percent and add 2.1 million new jobs by 2016. Employment in computer systems design and related services will grow by 38.3 percent and add nearly one-fourth of all new jobs in professional, scientific, and technical services. Employment growth will be driven by the increasing reliance of businesses on information technology and the continuing importance of maintaining system and network security. Management, scientific, and technical consulting services also will grow at a staggering 78 percent and account for another third of growth in this supersector. Demand for these services will be spurred by the increased use of new technology and computer software and the growing complexity of business.Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics: Tomorrow's Jobs
Certification can open many doors in the IT field. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, many employers regard certifications as the industry standard.
Certification shows you have successfully demonstrated your knowledge in IT concepts and implementation. This is what both human resource managers and IT professionals consider when seeking new employees.

Certification ensures that you are equipped with the skills necessary to perform your job tasks efficiently. These skills are vital for your career advancement. By hiring a certified job candidate, employers are confident they are hiring individuals who have proven themselves, possess the skill sets necessary for success and have met certification standards.
The U.S. Department of Labor states that jobseekers can enhance their employment opportunities be earning certifications. Professional certification may afford a jobseeker a competative advantage.

Completion of a certification training program will help those new to the industry qualify for entry-level positions that can lead them into new and exciting careers. Those already familiar and employed in the industry often gain certifications to help increase their salary, get promoted, and/or to deepen their knowledge base for increased job security. Case studies show that certified employees overall earn higher salary and gain better job security and benefits than those not certified.
